Two-Factor Authentication, Trusted Devices & New Sign-In Alerts

on June 11, 2026Your Chat Data account holds your chatbots, conversation history, leads, and billing — so keeping it secure matters. Until now, a password (or Google / magic-link sign-in) was the only thing standing between your account and anyone who managed to obtain your credentials. We've added a full account-security suite to close that gap: two-factor authentication, trusted devices, and new-device sign-in alerts.
What's New
- App-based two-factor authentication (2FA). Add a second step at sign-in using any authenticator app — Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Microsoft Authenticator, and others. After your password (or Google / magic link), you'll enter a 6-digit code from your app to finish signing in. Even if someone steals your password, they can't get in without your phone.
- Backup codes. When you enable 2FA, we give you a set of one-time backup codes. Save them somewhere safe — if you ever lose access to your authenticator app, a backup code gets you back in. Each code works once, and you can regenerate a fresh set anytime.
- Trust this device for 30 days. Just like your bank, you can check "Trust this device for 30 days" when entering your 2FA code. On that browser, we'll skip the second step for the next 30 days while still always requiring your password. No more reaching for your phone on every single login from your own laptop.
- New sign-in alerts — always on. Whenever your account is accessed from a device we haven't seen before, we email you right away — with the device, approximate location (city, region, country), IP address, and the time shown in that location's local timezone. This protection is on for every account automatically, whether or not you've enabled 2FA, and there's nothing to switch on. If 2FA is enabled, you'll get the alert even when the second step blocks the attempt — an early warning that your password may have leaked, so you can change it before anyone gets further.
- Stay in control of trusted devices. You can sign out of all trusted devices at any time from your account settings. Trusted devices are also cleared automatically whenever you disable 2FA or reset your password, so a lost or stolen laptop never stays trusted.
How to Enable It
- Go to Account settings and find the Two-Factor Authentication card.
- Click Enable, then scan the QR code with your authenticator app (or enter the key manually).
- Enter the 6-digit code from your app to confirm, and save the backup codes we show you.
That's it — 2FA is now active. The next time you sign in, you'll be asked for a code, and you can check "Trust this device for 30 days" to skip it on browsers you use regularly.
Why It Matters
Passwords get reused, phished, and leaked in breaches you may never hear about. Two-factor authentication means a stolen password alone is no longer enough to access your account. Trusted devices keep that protection from getting in your way day to day, and new-device alerts give you a heads-up the moment something looks off — the same layered approach used by banks and major platforms, now protecting your Chat Data account.
